Hilton Off Menu Cocktails from Apartment BartenderNew Year, New You! Your New Year Resolutions may already be long forgotten, but here at Hilton Miami Downtown we have a way to get you back on track toward new discoveries in 2020. Available for a limited time, our 1601 Lobby Lounge will feature an exclusive secret menu of four new takes on classic cocktails, mixed up by renowned mixologist, Elliott Clark. Known as the Apartment Bartender, Clark has taken his hobby and turned it into a full-blown career, making spirits bright while also being accessible to the most novice barista.

Just like those pesky resolutions, his four off-menu creations aren’t major changes on the classic cocktails, but a few minor tweaks that make all the difference. So even though you may be partial to always ordering your weekly Gin & Tonic or Martini when you swing by our lobby to unwind at 1601 Lounge, explore these four limited-time offerings and make sure to try one before they disappear:

(Seedlip Spice 94, Grapefruit Juice, Lime Juice, Brown Sugar Syrup, Soda Water)

If you find yourself celebrating a Dry January or live a straight-edge lifestyle, this zero-proof variation of the classic Paloma was mixed just for you!

Tamed Tiki

(Coconut Water, Lime Juice, Orange Juice, Maple Syrup, Ginger Beer)

While Tiki cocktails are generally made with rum, this other zero-proof entry on the menu substitutes the spirit with ginger beer, taking away the alcohol but not the intense flavor.

Urban Bourbon

(Bourbon Whiskey, Hibiscus-Lemon-Mint Syrup, Lemon Juice, Angostura Bitters, Soda Water)

Tasting like the tropics in a glass, the blend of floral hibiscus, zesty lemon, and fresh mint makes this Whiskey Sour quite sweet.

Café Cognac

(Cognac, Coffee Liqueur, Vanilla Syrup, Angostura Bitters)

A variation of an Old Fashioned, this drink blends the trending flavor profiles of coffee and vanilla with the classic cognac to create a sweetly bitter treat!

These cocktails will be available at Hilton Miami Downtown for a limited time this winter. Don’t miss your chance to reinvigorate your taste buds by trying something new to ring in 2020!

World Cup Sailing in Miami Returns for Its 31st Year!

2020 is an Olympic year, making the races that take place on Biscayne Bay later this month vital for all those who dream of competing in the Tokyo Games!

Sailboat RegattaThe 2020 Hempel World Cup Series Miami is one of four stops on the World Cup Sailing tour. Round 1 of this year’s tour has already been completed in the waters off Enoshima this past August. Now, the eyes of the sailing world fall on Miami for Round 2 of the Series, the premier competitive circuit for sailors who have aspirations of taking a medal this summer at the Tokyo Olympic Games. Yes – this year is an Olympic year making the final round of the Series (Round 4) back in Enoshima as part of the Games themselves. For those land lovers who wouldn’t know the difference between Finn and Laser to the most ardent helms on the Seven Seas, Hilton Miami Downtown has an overview of the upcoming competition getting ready to launch off the shore of Biscayne Bay later this month.

World Cup Series

This four-round series is an annual circuit of Olympic-style sailing open to professional and elite sailors in a variety of disciplines. Since its inception in 2008, over 2,000 sailors from 75 nations have competed in the Series. With the first round completed, Round 2 is set to start on Sunday, January 19 through Saturday, January 25, 2020. Racing starts on Monday, January 20 with all of the prestigious medal races being held on Biscayne Bay on the final day of the competition. As World Sailing is the governing body for the sport of sailing across the globe, they are officially recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), making the events this year a part of the Olympic Games.

Round 2 Hits the Waters of Biscayne Bay

Now in its 31st year of Olympic racing on Biscayne Bay, the 2020 Hempel World Cup Series Miami will be the only North American regatta to be included in the Series this year. For those campaigning to get into the next Olympic Games, the regatta is a needed part of their winter training. The competition is five days of fleet racing in all of the classes with medals being award to the top three boats in each class on the final day (Saturday, January 25).

Eye on the Future of Sailing?

A new offshore event is in the works for the 2024 Olympic Games. To get a glimpse of what this competition will be all about, for the first time, the World Cup Series Miami is hosting a Double Handed Class event in conjunction with the SORC Fort Lauderdale to Key West Race. The teams in this event will start south of the Everglades before finishing alongside the other classes competing in Round 2 on Biscayne Bay. This total course length will be approximately 300 miles and give the sailing world a sneak peek at what the future can hold for the sport.

Round 2 is almost here, so it is time to start planning your own trip to the Bay. Get ready to enjoy exhilarating days of action on the water, then come back, kick off your shoes, and relax in Magic City style at Hilton Miami Downtown. Take advantage of our peerless location, only 6 miles from the US Sailing Center Miami where all the launching will begin, and enjoy spacious, modernly-appointed accommodations to ensure your own personal World Cup experience wins the gold!

Why celebrate Art Deco?

Even if you don’t know the difference between the strong geometric details of this style of architecture and the more refined designs of olden times, Art Deco Weekend celebrates the ingenuity of the pioneers who were trying to reinvent the world, instead of just recreating what came before. To honor these innovators and their innovations, the Miami Design Preservation League created this special weekend to help preserve and promote Miami by showcasing the Art Deco buildings and save them for future generations to enjoy!

How do you celebrate Art Deco?

Simple – with almost 85 events over three days each and every year! For 2020, the theme focuses on Sheroes: Women Who Made a Difference, celebrating 100 years of Women’s Suffrage. The event list is staggering, containing everything from a suffragette parade, live music and guided walking tours to antiquing and car shows. There are sketch, wellness, and dance classes, a film festival, and a variety of kids’ activities for the young and young-at-heart. The furry members of your family also have their own event during the weekend – the appropriately titled Arf Deco Dog Walk! Be advised that many of the panels and performances are ticketed and spots are beginning to fill up. So, plan your weekend NOW!

Where do you celebrate Art Deco?

On Ocean Drive and with us at Hilton Miami Downtown. Our downtown hotel is conveniently located less than five miles from Ocean Drive and all of the festivities during the weekend. Miami Arts & Heritage Months continues into January 2020

Join the celebration of Miami’s heritage with some help from Hilton Miami Downtown.

Latin Themed Painted MuralNo matter where your travels take you, your destination will be full of rich and diverse traditions that make up its cultural heritage. From Small Town, USA to the most urban cities, their unique soul is always on display. When it comes to Miami, our neighborhoods radiate this vibrancy to such a degree that we take two whole months to honor and throw a spotlight our culture – Miami Arts & Heritage Months! Both December and January on our annual calendars are devoted to highlighting our city’s cultural landmarks with a variety of tours, exhibits, and events. As it continues through the New Year, discover our top destinations to immerse yourself into all things Miami!

Visit Little Havana

Cuban-American history abounds in Little Havana, a true cultural touchstone of our city. The great Cuban migration was the foundation to welcome all different Latin cultures to Miami. Thus, this beloved neighborhood is teeming with the vibrancy of this Latin melting pot, from the street art to the cuisine to the historical landmarks. Our suggestion would be to start at the heart and soul of the area – Calle Ocho (also known as southwest 8th Street). Grab some of the famous Azucar ice cream, take in a game of dominoes at Domino Park… or just let your feet take you on a journey through the magical Hispanic heritage.

Take a Trip to HistoryMiami Museum

What heritage month would be complete without a trip to the premier cultural institution committed to celebrating the history of Miami? Currently, HistoryMiami has a variety of exhibits that blend the past with the present while also keeping an eye on the future. As our area will be hosting the Professional Football Championship game this year (yes, that Game), the museum is honoring Gridiron Glory: The Best of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, with a special focus on the contributions of Miamians. Other permanent attractions are the Folklife Gallery, History & Ourselves, and Tropical Dreams: A People’s History of South Florida!

As part of the Miami Temptations Program, these two cultural heritage months (along with six other annual events) are designed to tailor the Magic City experience to each visitor. Another way to ensure that your visit is genuinely personalized and authentically Miami – book a room with us at Hilton Miami Downtown. Our hotel is conveniently located near many of the city’s major attractions, either by foot for the free public transportation system, MetroMover. And this convenience is perfectly matched by the comfort of our spacious accommodations and variety of upscale amenities, giving you the chance to experience Miami as you like it!

Latin Vibe Fridays

Just as Instagrammable but with a true Miami twist, Friday nights bring a distinctly Latin flavor to 1601 Lounge. The Mojitos, Margaritas, and Sangria will be flowing while the Argentinean Beef Empanadas and Peruvian Grilled Chicken Wings are steaming… and not just in warmth but from the spicy heat of the Chimichurri and Aji Amarillo sauces. There is simply no better way to herald in the weekend in style than with this perfect pair of classic cocktails and delectable dishes, all enjoyed to the sweet sounds of DJ KIWI.

The weekend doesn’t start on Saturday at Hilton Miami Downtown. Our comfortable accommodations and upscale amenities are just a few steps away… so what are you waiting for? Book your stay today! Cheers!

Discovering Classic Cocktails with a Twist

With the end of the year fast approaching, there’s no better way to say adios to 2019 than by sampling some of the newest flavors of Classic Cocktails at 1601!

In the spirit of the holiday season, we are thankful for the latest partnership between Hilton and the ever-popular dining network, Eater. This dynamic duo has come together to offer our guests a new spin on many common cocktails that can be regularly found on menus across the globe. Craving a martini to get you through the upcoming holiday season… or are you in a tropical mood with a piña colada calling your name? Here are the four classic cocktails available at 1601 that have taken a twist toward the inventive side of mixology… but only through the end of 2019:

Hilton Miami Downtown Eater CocktailsThe EATER Work From Hotel Collins

No longer your standard Tom Collins, this cocktail combines Hendrick’s Gin, St-Germain, simple syrup, pea flower extract, and lemon juice. The addition of the elderflower-based liquor (St-Germain) is highlighted not only on your palate, but in the visual garnishes of cucumber, rosemary, and edible flowers!

The Carpe Per Diem Martini

One of the most often twisted cocktails through the years, this new take on the martini is one sweet treat! With the dry Bombay Sapphire Gin perfectly balancing the other flavors, each ingredient from the grapefruit juice, vanilla simple syrup, lime juice, and angostura bitters to the finely grated ginger gets a chance to tickle your taste buds! And don’t forget the rock candy stick that tops off this chart-topping concoction!

The Out of Office Colada

Drinking responsibly? That is no reason for you to forgo flavor! And just like the virgin version of a classic piña colada, this coconut charmer is sure to put you right in the Tropics. It is no longer a frosty favorite, but a nonalcoholic blend of coconut water, coconut milk, coconut creme, pineapple juice, angostura bitters, and cinnamon! Yes… cinnamon which tastes delightful on the accompanying pineapple spear that makes this our new favorite workday treat!

The Dream Team Centennial Negroni Sour

In celebration of the centennial of both Hilton and the Negroni cocktail, this recipe takes the classic three ingredients and kicks it up a notch… or 100! No longer just gin, sweet vermouth and Campari, this twisted take blends Aviation Gin, lemon juice, egg white, Campari, Amaro Nonino, fresh orange juice, and simple syrup, to create a fruity yet festively fancy formula!

These classic cocktails with a twist are only available for a limited time. And after indulging in your choice of a lovely libation (even the frosty beverage that is lacking the alcohol kick), do you really want to have to head home for the night? The comfort and convenience of our modernly-appointed accommodations at Hilton Miami Downtown are ready to serve as your designated driver and steer you right toward a night of home-away-from-home comfort. Cheers!

Top Shows and Events This Holiday Season in Miami

Don’t let the sunshine and warm weather fool you: celebrating the holiday season in Miami is just as festive even without the snow!

Believe it or not, Miami is a top destination to celebrate the holidays… and for many reasons. From our milder climate during the traditionally colder winter months to our vibrant cultural heritage, Magic City truly lives up to its name during the most wonderful time of the year! Yet one of the main reasons is the variety of holiday shows and events that happen throughout our area of South Florida. At Hilton Miami Downtown, these are our absolute, can’t-miss favorites:

Christmas Tree and Palm Trees

Luminosa | Jungle Island

Open every night through January 8, 2020 at Jungle Island, Luminosa is a carnival of lanterns that hearkens back to an era in Chinese history over 2,000 years in the past! This Miami-fied version of a Chinese Lantern Festival is annually produced in partnership with Zigong Lantern Group and China Lantern International, the industry leader in such events worldwide. Visitors that take the trip to the illuminated past at Jungle Island will find themselves captivated by the nighttime landscape lit by over 1 million LED lights that fill colorful silk, hand-crafted giant lanterns. Denoting the end of the Chinese New Year, the lanterns celebrate letting go of the past and looking toward the future, a perfect theme for the holiday season!

Miami City Ballet: The Nutcracker | The Adrienne Arsht Center

Ready for sugar plums to dance in your head... and on stage? The beloved classic symphonies of Tchaikovsky are set to ring out into the air as the pointed toes on those dancing feet of the members of the Miami City Ballet prepare their new production of George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker®. Running from Friday, December 13 through Sunday, December 22 on select days at The Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County, this timeless holiday tradition is ready to enchant your entire family with iconic melodies and adored characters that continue to captivate audiences young and old over a hundred years after its first curtain call!

Bayfront Holiday Village

Open daily from 11:00AM to 10:00PM, the largest Holiday Village in South Florida is back at Bayside Marketplace for 2019! The Shops at Bayfront Holiday Village annually bring in over 15 million visitors to its carefully curated artisan boutiques. But this festive retail setting is only one part of the magic of the holidays that can be found at this Village. A 50-foot animated Christmas Tree watches over the proceedings that include Bayskate (Miami’s version of ice skating), Bayfront Bites (the top food trucks in all of South Florida), the Santa Paws Dog Park, and so much more!

Fun Rainy Day Activities To Do In Miami!

Don’t let Mother Nature put a damper on your visit to Miami!

Rainbow Umbrella in the RainMother Nature does not always like to play nice with your plans. What starts out as a bright sunny morning soon turns into a cloudy, shower-filled afternoon. Although our area of the Sunshine State often lives up to the moniker, there will be times when the forecast will take a turn toward wet! We would never want weather to dampen your enjoyment of your time visiting our great city, especially when there are a lot of great things nearby that you can do indoors! Here are a variety of rainy day activities to do in Miami that everyone will enjoy:

Pérez Art Museum Miami

The Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) is an eclectic mix of contemporary art spanning the entire globe. With its permanent collection containing over 1,800 works, focusing on the 20th- and 21st-century art from the Americas, Western Europe and Africa, Miami’s flagship art museum continues to captivate thousands of patrons annually. Relocating to Museum Park in Downtown Miami in 2013, the museum continues to uphold its mission of not only showcasing some of the top modern art in the world but representing Miami-Dade and the unique viewpoint of its residents.

The Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science

The recently opened and more familiarly known Frost Science Museum is truly state-of-the-art and full of hands-on exhibits to entertain the young and young-at-heart alike. With breathtaking aquariums that need to be seen to be believed and a massive planetarium with shows that enthrall visitors with views of outer space daily, it will be hard not to be interested in the science that is on display. The museum is all about engagement, with the static, standard panels that have plagued museums of old being updated as touchscreens and tablets, making for a fully immersive experience.

Brickell City Centre

Brickell City Centre (BCC) is three full levels of shopping, dining, and entertainment in the heart of Downtown Miami! Take in some retail therapy at the Centre’s 500,000 square foot vertical shopping experience that is a mix of luxury brands to the more contemporary shops and even new-to-the-market boutiques. Don’t come on a full stomach as the multitude of dining options make up the third and even now a fourth level of the complex. All of this Magic City splendor is anchored by CMX, the VIP Cinema Experience, the perfect place to catch the latest films on a screen that will make all previous movie-going happenings pale in comparison.

The Adrienne Arsht Center

Many may not guess that one of the world’s leading performing arts organizations and venues sits in the heart of Downtown Miami. Yet since opening its doors in 2006, the innovative programming that has graced the stage of the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts has put Miami-Dade County on the map in the world of the performing arts. From taking a free tour of the center, pleasing your palate with some fine dining at BRAVA by Brad Kilgore to catching one of the nearly 400 performances they put on a year, there are a variety of attractions to enchant you.

If you know that your visit to Miami may coincide with some less than stellar weather, stay dry and book a room with us in the heart of downtown at Hilton Miami Downtown. Our location is convenient to each one of these top destinations, and our comfortable accommodations, upscale amenities, and unparalleled service will make even the rainiest of days sunny, if only in your mind!

Free Fun Things To Do In Miami For All Ages!

Inquiring minds at Hilton Miami Downtown would like to know – who doesn’t like free things?

The best things in life are free. Along with our perpetual warm weather and immense cultural scene, one of the best parts of being in the Magic City is the multitude of free fun things to do in Miami. Luckily, the Downtown area has no shortage of free attractions happening throughout the year. And yes, when we say free… we mean FREE! Here are our top choices for fun daily diversions that won’t break the bank!

Free Museum Days! PAMM courtyard hanging gardens

Is there a particular museum in the area that interests you? There is a very good chance that these houses of learning and culture offer free admission days at least once a month. While many patrons will just choose to pay the nominal admission fee (or donation) to visit the museum of their choice on any given day, frugal free fun seekers can choose to plan their fun on free admission days. Two of the top museums in our area, the Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) and HistoryMiami Museum, offer free admission once a month, on the first Thursday and second Saturday of each month respectively.

Take an Art Walk through Wynwood!

Walk any random street in Miami and you would be hard pressed not to find a little bit of local color splashed on the walls. Miami’s rich artistic community is quite diverse, but the true nucleus of the cultural scene in Magic City is the former warehouse district, Wynwood. Whether self-guided or during a structured tour (free every second Saturday of the month), taking a Wynwood Art Walk is a perfect free way to soak up some culture along with the sunny rays of our South Floridian sky.

Window Shop at Bayside Marketplace!

Even if your personal bank account isn’t ready for some good ol’ retail therapy, it is never a bad time to window shop at Bayside Marketplace. Not only is this two-story open air shopping center located in the heart of Downtown Miami, it is replete with shops, vendors, live events, and amazing sights of the harbor.

Ride the MetroMover!

Some people love walking the streets of city. Others take to the rails. Trips between your choices of free fun destinations may be lengthy, but the MetroMover is ready to be your magic carpet. Metromover operates seven-days-a-week in the downtown and Brickell area and is absolutely free! The major destinations on its line include American Airlines Arena, Bayside Marketplace, and the Adrienne Arsht Center. Running in loops, it is a great, free way to get around the entire expanse of Downtown Miami.

After a full day of strolling (or rolling through) the streets of the city without spending a dime, continue to choose wisely and stay with us in the heart of the city at Hilton Miami Downtown. Our central location, comfortable accommodations, upscale amenities, and unparalleled service combine for a full package, especially when you take advantage of our special offers - which may include free breakfast and free Wi-Fi… book your stay today!
