A Closer Look at the LGBT Event in Miami

Since it started in 2009, this hugely popular LGBT event in Miami has grown from a simple neighborhood day out to an event of a global scale, complete with A-list celebrities and Grand Marshals. In 2009, some 15,000 spectators turned out for the event, and by last year, that number had swelled to 130,000.

The final day of the event kicks off with a big, bold parade at 12pm. The parade will run along the length of Ocean Drive and along the Art Deco district, where roads will be closed to traffic.

Don’t Skip a Visit to the Wings Over Miami Museum Next Time You’re in Miami

Wings Over Miami Museum

Learn about aviation at this popular museum in Miami.

If you’re looking for the best Miami family attractions for your next visit, make sure you get to the Wings Over Miami Museum. The museum serves as a tribute to the aviators and veterans who pioneered both military and civilian aviation.

Here’s What You Need to Know About This Aviation Museum in Miami

This aviation museum in Miami both flies and displays classic and military aircraft so that visitors can truly share in the rich history of flight. Visitors can learn about the operating legacy of aircraft and gain great insight into the stories of the pilots who flew the aircraft.

If you’re planning things to do in Miami during your next visit, the museum is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, but is open from 10am – 5pm Wednesday through Sunday. Based in Kendall, the museum is actually a hangar facility. Back in 1986, pilot Kermit Weeks chose to house his collection of vintage aircraft in a way that could be shared with the community. Six years later, the makeshift museum was crushed by a hurricane and damaged just about all the planes. The museum was rebuilt and remained in the same location until Kermit Weeks moved the growing collection to Polk County, where he was able to create the “Fantasy of Flight.” This move left a great void in the aviation community in Southern Florida, so in 2001, a couple of classic and military plane enthusiasts banded together to transition the hangar into today’s museum.

An entirely new collection was acquired for the museum and includes military trainers, vintage aircraft and even jet aircraft from the Cold War.
