Following on the heels of awards season for the film industry, Magic City is getting ready to celebrate new and enduring voices in International and Ibero-American films at the 37th Annual Miami Film Festival. Here is what you need to know…
The festival starts long before the screenings and awards are handed out. Hundreds of filmmakers first have to submit their films for consideration in a variety of competition categories. Over $150,000 in awards will be given out in the competition categories with the top award – the Knight Marimbas – presenting $40,000 to the jury-selected feature (60 minutes or longer) that best exemplifies richness and resonance for cinema’s future. Last year, throughout all of the categories, more than 170 feature narratives, documentaries, and short films of all genres were presented from over 40 different countries. 2020 is shaping up to be even bigger!
The 37th Annual Miami Film Festival will run from March 6 - 15, 2020. As notifications have just recently been sent out to the selected filmmakers, the final program of films is still being complied. To learn about the full lineup be sure to visit the Festival’s website. Once you learn about the films you want to see, here is your NEXT step.
Find the closest or most convenient venue for you. The Festival brings their films to as many neighborhoods across Miami as they can from the historic Olympia Theater on E. Flagler Street to the Coral Gables Art Cinema to The Confidante in Miami Beach! Tickets can be purchased on the Festival’s site as single passes or pre-paid packages for a designated amount of films. For instance, their popular Buzz List Package ($116) gives you two tickets to the programmers’ personal top five, sure-to-be-talked-about films of the Festival. You may not know what you are going to see, but that makes it all the more fun!
