The Perez Art Museum Miami (PAMM)
Miami’s newest art museum The Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) opened to the public in Miami’s Museum Park last December, and is already greatly exceeding attendance expectations. The Pérez Art Museum Miami is a modern and contemporary art museum dedicated to collecting and exhibiting international art of the 20th and 21st centuries.
Pérez Art Museum Miami was originally founded as the Center for Fine Arts with no collection of its own. Today the new museum building, set along Biscayne Bay, offers gorgeous water views. PAMM is spread over three levels and features some 200,000 square feet of exhibition space, filled with a mix of American, Latin American and international art.
A six-gallery permanent exhibit entitled AMERICANA brings together paintings, sculptures and installations by North, South, Central American and Caribbean artists from the mid-to-late 20th century through today.
The traveling exhibition “Caribbean: Crossroads of the World”, on view through August 17, has a section on Miami’s Caribbean community that was created especially for PAMM. Through August 31 is “Edouard Duval-Carrié: Imagined Landscapes”, which presents new paintings by the Miami-based artist known for his distinctive art of Haiti.
On Thursday evenings visitors are invited to attend a weekly program which features a variety of talks, performances and screenings. On third Thursdays, PAMM presents an eclectic range of DJs and musicians for an outdoor music series on the terrace by the bay, free with museum admission.
